One night in late 2015, I awoke from a terrible nightmare: It was early November, I turned on the TV and witnessed the news….”Hillary Clinton elected President.” I couldn’t believe it. How could anyone vote for this terribly corrupt career-politician? What does this mean for our country? How many more problems would this create? Seriously!? I was stunned. I panicked…so much so that I woke up.
At that point, I paid ZERO attention to politics. I had given that up in 2008 when McCain ran against Obama. I didn’t care for either but sorta wanted McCain just because I tended to lean toward the right. I had been going through a personal transformation that year. I realized how many of my thoughts and beliefs were a result of conditioning and heritage. Hardly any of it a result of my direct intention and I wanted to change that.
I made it a point to take my power back; from teachers, from parents, from friends, from banks, from cell phone companies, from advertisers, from women, and most especially from politicians.
I realized that my life is up to me. I’m not going to let anyone else be the excuse for me not succeeding. It doesn’t matter what’s happening OUT THERE. I have the power to create my life. With this new mindset, I set out to restore integrity in every area of my life and in all my relationships, including my relationship to politics.
When Obama was announced as the next president, I gave in to the enthusiasm everyone seemed to have for this new hope for change. I thought “let’s see what he can do.”
By 2015, I hadn’t watched news of any kind. I only got tidbits from other people who I talked to in person. I didn’t even browse Facebook or search for news online.
In fact, I was so out of it, for a moment I didn’t even know when the next election was. That’s part of why this nightmare was so terrifying. “November was just a month away, could my bad dream really be coming true?” I thought to myself.
I jumped out of bed, raced to the computer and looked up the next presidential election. “2016. Of course…the last one was in 2012.” It all come back to me. I breathed a HUGE sign of relief as I realized that no, Hilary was not elected president. We still had a whole primary to go before we even go to the election…and there’d be NO way she could get that far.
I heard rumblings in the news about Trump running for president. Immediately I thought it was an amazing idea. “A businessman for president – hell yeah!” Since my late teens, I’d always hoped that a businessman could run for president and win. Government seemed so bloated and inefficient. A practical and pragmatic businessman could change all that.
Even if he didn’t win, I already knew that my power was up to me. I would never again hold anyone else responsible for my happiness. I would never let someone outside of me be the excuse for feeling depressed or disempowered.
Over the previous 8 years, I had gone on an amazing journey of self-discovery and transformation. I became a vegetarian for a year and a raw vegan for a couple months, I took up new spiritual practices, studied evolutionary-psychology and energy-psychology and male-female dynamics, launched two start-ups – one of which actually made some money, traveled the world, and networked with many young professionals in the world of information product creation and online marketing.
Interestingly, over the course of the primaries and then the election, I started to watch my Facebook feed and check the news more often. To my surprise, the overwhelming majority of friends’ posts and news articles that I read were extremely negative about Trump and the vast majority were Bernie supporters with some for Hilary and almost no one openly supporting Trump.
Through my journey, I realized I had met many people on the left side of the political spectrum who shared a completely different worldview and held different ideas as their highest values. While I could understand their sentiment to some degree, I noticed that there existed a huge BIAS in the media – both social media and traditional media. I also saw that anyone that came out in support of Trump was instantly shamed and demonized.
How could these people who preach tolerance and inclusion be so quick to abandon these values when faced with ideas and opinions that differ from theirs? Why did the left get so triggered by Trump? How did there get to be such a disconnect from these two points of view? In the past we had democrats and republicans, and usually we could agree to disagree, yet this was a whole new level.
The left appeared to control the flow of information – in the schools, in the media, and even the tech companies that control the internet…and there was clearly only one viewpoint they were willing to tolerate.
The new wave of enthusiasm for Trump came directly from the people. This MOVEMENT energized a new evolution in politics that’s still unfolding yet there’s tremendous resistance to it from those in supposed positions of power. Is Trump perfect? Of course not. No one is. Yet he represents an emerging new energy that’s transforming the political spectrum. He ran as a republican yet he faces almost as much opposition in that party as with the democrats. He has been able to attract people from all parties because his platform gives voice to the values that millions of people hold dear yet haven’t had a way to express until now.
When the left looks at these values, they have this idea of racist, sexist, repressed, religious rednecks who are stuck in an old way of living and need to be enlightened to the new philosophies of love and compassion and “social justice”. In fact, for many people, Trump getting elected was THEIR nightmare and it actually came true. Yet, I believe their fear is not due to Trump being elected but by their beliefs about what this means for them and the world at large (beliefs which may or may not be true).
This site is intended to bridge that gap – to help the left understand the values of this new movement so they can be less stressed about what’s happening. From understanding we can move to compassion and then to collaboration. For the right, there are many problematic attitudes and ideas that are preventing them from making progress faster. The main obstacle to both of these intentions? The mainstream media. It feeds on conflict and will do everything in its power to pit us against each other for ratings and profit.
My approach with this site will be mainly to present my interpretation of the teachings of Abraham Hicks and the spiritual principles of Devotional Non-Duality (as laid out by David R. Hawkins) as it relates to current events, rooted in intentions set forth in the Constitution. I’m catching up in the political world yet have studied spirituality and psychology a good amount and gone through some pretty intense journeys and experienced powerful transformations, so my intention is that you’ll find new viewpoints that enhance your intellectual freedom and well-being.
